Walk along the quiet, tree-lined streets of the city of Basel in Switzerland and you can see contemporary art everywhere including its medieval walls. Art Basel, deemed the world’s top fair for modern and contemporary art is aiming to let locals appreciate art directly in their urban landscape for free and get the visitors to Basel to see more of the city itself.

During the Art Basel, sculptures and installations are placed in strategic points around the town. Works by various artists from around the world, such as British-Nigerian multimedia artist Yinka Shonibare and Costa Rican painter, Federico Ferrero, can be admired as you make your way through the streets along the river Rhine and into ancient buildings.  The locals seemed well pleased with the idea of taking the museum outdoors and brightening up the community in the process.
