Film Festival UBD 2014

It definitely was encouraging to see young Brunei filmmakers and actors showcasing their abilities during the Film Festival UBD 2014 last weekend.

As I walked into the theatre I was curious of what the students had to offer. I was told that the production was part of their course but after viewing all the short films it looked like everyone went the extra mile in their efforts or just loved that they were making short films.

According to the programme, the event featured eight short films made by both students and various production houses. The films covered themes such as horror, romance, suspense and comedy.

I can say that from the wealth of talent displayed by the students, whether it’s the script or cinematography, it is something can be taken to a higher level when coupled with further guidance from the experienced industry players.

The Film Festival UBD 2014 serves as a platform to showcase talent and potential among the youths in Brunei while. Additionally it also hopes to be an agent of change in the local film scene while raising awareness on the importance of supporting filmmakers in Brunei.
