bmw 1 series

BMW has produced 2 new lines in the 1 Series for the young urbanites with active lifestyles.  The 1 Series has two individualisation options - The Urban line and the Sporty line - both with exclusive interior and exterior design features and equipment.  The 1 Series is manufactured with Efficiency Dynamics Technology and is the first automobile in the compact class with an optional 8-speed automatic transmission.

It comes with a standard factory-auto stop-start function for standard and automatic transmissions.  It is available in 116 to 184 horse power depending on the model. With its new twin-powered turbo technology, the overall fuel consumption lies between 3.9 and 7.6 litres per 100 kilometres, offering efficiency at the highest measure.

From the exterior, the new 1 Series is not just 85 mm longer than its predecessor but the design features subtly distinguishes the 2 lines with special differences that defines the line.  On the outside, the Sporty version has black bars on the front grid that are wider apart and more chunky, making it more ferocious and sporty.  The insides are decked out with sports seats and sports steering wheel with red contrast seams. The interior of the Urban version is sleek with accents of acrylic glass while the exterior shows off a white front grid that is associated with clean and modern.


One special feature both versions have that is not found on other BMWs is the headlamps.  Their double headlamps are designed to be uniquely neither square nor circle.  At the BMW Research & Innovation Centre, they call it a 'squarecle'.

Its reputation for producing some of the most desired driving machines in the world is tied to its vast research and development resources.  The BMW Research & Innovation Centre in Munich, Germany hires about 300 designers to create the cars of the future. The whole process of coming up with an idea for a design, putting it on paper, to seeing the car on the road takes about 3 years. The design process itself takes about 1 year.  Following a briefing from the head designer, they conduct an open sketch competition and select the most promising sketches.  After that, they turn those sketches into clay models and finally select the ones that would go into production.
