from hawker to billionnaire

Zhou Xiaoquang used to carry a 60kg bag of cheap accessories and sold them on night trains as a teenager. Raised in poverty, she went on and own a jewellery empire with a sales force in 70 countries, high-profile alliances with Swarosvki and singer Celine Dion. An inspiration to all women, here is her story.

Tired of having to stand outside the classroom because her parents were behind on the school fees, Zhou left school at 16 and became a street peddler. Today, her jewellery company, Neoglory, is a world leader in costume and fashion jewellery.  It started out as a low-cost manufacturer churning out cheap trinkets but now it hires 300 designers to produce 100 designs everyday and they are sold in nearly 1,000 stores around China. Zhou’s wares are sold in trade fairs as well because she believes, ‘It is a must to go abroad to sustain growth’.
