Thousands of dog-lovers entered the 2011 Dog Photographer of the Year competition, raising almost £2,500 for the Kennel Club Charitable Trust, which is a dog charity which looks after the health and welfare of all dogs int he U.K. They make a difference by funding a variety of work ranging from supporting research into canine diseases, dog welfare organisations and the promotion of support dogs, all of which give dogs a healthier, happier life.

The Guardian featured five category winners and a selection of runners-up, mostly taken by amateur photographers. All 25 shortlisted photographs can be seen on Flickr and the winning images will be on display at Discover Dogs in Earl's Court, London, on 12 and 13 November, 2011.
